Theatre Trips
As You Write It
On the evening of Friday 9th September, our Drama & Theatre Club children were excellent Malvern ambassadors when they visited the brand-new Shakespeare North Playhouse. In the presence of BBC ‘One Show’ cameras and Merseyside author Frank Cottrell-Boyce, our children witnessed the first ‘in the round’ performance on Shakespeare North’s amazing octagonal stage. ‘As You Write It’ debuted three short plays that were written by young people – winners of a joint Shakespeare North and BBC One Show competition. And as often happens on theatre trips, several members of the audience complimented the children on their impeccable behaviour.

Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World
On Tuesday 29th March, 22 members of our Y5 & Y6 Drama & Theatre Club visited Liverpool’s Playhouse Theatre to see ‘Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World’. Adapted from Kate Pankhurst’s book, the play brought to life several amazing women from the past.
Jade, the play’s heroine, breaks away from her class to take a peek at the not-yet-open Gallery of Greatness in her local museum. Along her journey, she is surprised to meet the original and incredible wonder women: Frida Kahlo, Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie and Emmeline Pankhurst….to name but a few.
Children and staff enjoyed an amazing performance. And as usual, Drama & Theatre Club children were excellent Malvern ambassadors.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll panto Robin Hood

‘The Show Must Go On’ @ The Bombed-Out Church
On the evenings of May 18th and 20th, Y5 and Y6 Drama and Theatre Club children went to Liverpool’s Bombed-Out Church to see ‘The Show Must Go On’. It was written by Sarah A. Nixon and Mark Chatterton (the team responsible for The Everyman’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto) and included familiar panto cast members. The children had a fantastic time – and as usual, they were superb ambassadors for our school.
Robin Hood – Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto
Regular writers Sarah A Nixon and Mark Chatterton put their own marvellously mischievous spin on the classic tale of heroism, social justice and… tights….! Yes, you’ve guessed it, this year’s Everyman rock ‘n’ panto will be ROBIN HOOD! And Drama and Theatre Club children will be at Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre on the evening of Thursday 7th January. Unlike any other panto in the city, the Everyman’s multi-talented cast sing, dance, entertain and play music live on stage.
Malory Towers – A Musical Comedy
This production could not take place due to COVID-19. Refunds will be organised as soon as possible.
On Thursday 2nd July, members of Drama and Theatre Cub will be at The Storyhouse Theatre in Chester to see ‘Malory Towers – A Musical Comedy‘ The production is described as nostalgic, naughty and perfect for now, Malory Towers is a musical of high jinks, high drama and high spirits.
Darrell Rivers is starting school with an eager mind and a fierce heart. Unfortunately, she also has a quick temper ! Can she learn to tolerate the infuriating Gwendoline Lacey, or value the kind-hearted Sally Hope ? Can she save the school play and rescue terrified Mary Lou from the grip of a raging storm ? If she can do these things anywhere, she will do them at Malory Towers!
Adapted and directed by Emma Rice (Wise Children, Kneehigh’s Tristan & Yseult and Brief Encounter), this is a show for children and all of us grown up children who still dream of midnight feasts, pillow fights and headmistresses like Miss Grayling.
William Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’
On the evening of Thursday 8th October 2020, our Drama & Theatre Club children will be at Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre to see William Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’.
Following successful runs of Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the critically acclaimed Daniel Taylor Productions make their highly anticipated return to the Epstein Theatre in Autumn 2020 with one of Shakespeare’s most enchanting tales of all, The Tempest.
The Tempest tells the tale of survivors of a shipwreck who wash ashore on a remote island and come face to face with the powerful and enigmatic Prospero and his ethereal court of magical creatures.
As with all of Daniel Taylor’s productions this one is sure to be an unmissable event in the city’s cultural calendar.
