Children’s University Awards
Our Children attended Liverpool Hope University, where they received theier Childrens University Awards.
Over 350 pupils and over 500 parents, grandparents and supporters from five Knowsley Primary schools, attended the Knowsley Children’s University™ Graduation Ceremonies this week, at Liverpool Hope University’s Hope Park campus.
The Children’s University™ is described as, “a national organisation offering children aged 7-14 an exciting and innovative programme of high quality learning opportunities outside school hours, with a focus on rewarding participation, raising aspirations and encouraging engagement with learning” (DfCSF, 2008). The Graduation Ceremonies held this week at Hope Park were to celebrate, recognise and reward those young people who have taken part in these out-of-school activities. During their graduation, the students were fitted with academic gowns and mortar boards, before being officially photographed and presented with their graduation certificate.
The event was organised and managed by Liverpool Hope University’s Events and Promotions Officer, Caroline Fitt, who was assisted by PR Officer, Michelle Pryor and the University’s Director of Marketing, Recruitment and External Relations, John McCarthy.
In attendance and lending their support to the event were: Ger Grouse, the National Director of the Children’s University; Damian Allen, Executive Director of Children and Families Services; Councillor Ron Round, the Leader of KMBC; Professor Pillay, Vice-Chancellor and Rector of Liverpool Hope University; Simon Mc Eneny, Service Director for Future Schooling in Knowsley; Lesley Hollinshead, Children and Family Services Manager for the Family Support and Children’s Health Services; Professor McGettrick, Dean of Education at Liverpool Hope University; Professor Chambers, Pro Vice-Chancellor External Relations and Widening Participation at Liverpool Hope University; Sandra Feerick from Extended School Services; and Anne Burgess, Knowsley Aimhigher Coordinator.
