At Malvern Primary School, we are proud to provide our pupils with opportunities to develop a love for archery as part of our Lord Derby Award programme. Starting in Year 3, pupils receive 1:1 instruction from a qualified archery instructor, fostering confidence, focus and coordination in a supportive environment. This foundational experience serves as a stepping stone for further skill development during our exciting residential visits to CHET (Crosby Hall Educational Trust) and Barstondale where pupils can immerse themselves in outdoor pursuits and deepen their understanding of this ancient sport.
Beyond the classroom and residential trips, pupils have the chance to refine their archery skills further through a dedicated after-school club. Here, they can practise regularly, build strength and precision and cultivate a sense of personal achievement.
Engaging in archery offers children a wealth of benefits beyond mastering technique. It helps to improve mental focus, patience and resilience while developing physical coordination and strength. Moreover, the sport encourages goal setting and perseverance, valuable skills that extend into all areas of life.
Outdoor pursuits like archery also nurture a connection with nature and provide an excellent opportunity for children to enjoy the outdoors, reduce stress and build lasting friendships. By participating in these activities, pupils develop teamwork and a sense of adventure while creating lifelong memories.
At Malvern Primary School, our commitment to enriching experiences like archery ensures that pupils leave with more than just skills—they gain confidence, a love for outdoor challenges and the joy of achieving personal goals.
