Gymnastics in the P.E Curriculum

At Malvern, we ensure that gymnastics focuses on fundamental movements that lay the groundwork for more advanced skills.

Balance and Posture

Children learn to maintain balance through exercises like standing on one foot, walking on a beam, or holding a pose. This helps improve their core stability and concentration.

Rolling and Tumbling

Basic tumbling exercises such as forward rolls, log rolls, and somersaults are fun and easy for young learners. These movements help children understand spatial awareness and coordination.

Jumping and Landing

From simple jumps to more complex vaulting exercises, children practice jumping and landing safely. These activities improve leg strength and coordination while teaching important skills like body control and safe landings.

Flexibility and Stretching

Flexibility is an important aspect of gymnastics. Stretching exercises are incorporated into warm-ups and cool-downs to increase range of motion and prevent injuries.
