Year 1 Explore Acrostic Poetry Inspired by The Gruffalo
During the autumn term,, our Year 1 children have been diving into the enchanting world of acrostic poetry! After enjoying the beloved story of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, the children explored how acrostic poems are structured, using each letter of a chosen word to begin a new line of poetry.
Inspired by the adventurous tale and its memorable characters, they eagerly crafted their own acrostic poems about the Gruffalo. From describing his “Terrible tusks” to his “Orange eyes,” the young poets captured the essence of this fearsome yet lovable creature in their own creative words.
The children showcased their understanding of descriptive language, rhythm and creativity, and we were so impressed by their efforts! Have a listen and a read of some our wonderful poems below.
