Year 2 Explore Simile Poems
During the autumn term, our Year 2 children have been exploring the art of simile poetry, learning how to compare one thing to another using the words like or as to create vivid imagery. This exciting topic sparked their imaginations, inspiring them to write their own simile-filled poems on a variety of themes, from the ferocious world of dinosaurs to the colourful beauty of rainbows.
As part of their learning, the children discovered how similes can bring writing to life, making their ideas more expressive and engaging. Guided by their teachers, they brainstormed powerful comparisons, such as “as bright as the sun” for rainbows and “roars like thunder” for dinosaurs.
