LIPA @ Malvern

During the spring term of 2023, we were delighted to welcome Caitlin Newman from LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) to Malvern. Caitlin worked with a group of our super-talented Y6 Drama & Theatre Club children. Under Caitlin’s guidance and direction, the children investigated the challenges associated with moving from primary to secondary school and created a short dramatic piece entitled ‘Nervous Wreck’. This explored how the character of ‘John’ overcame fears of moving on and developed the confidence to try new things.

The culmination of all their creativity and hard work was the staging of their short play at Dixons Broadgreen Academy on March 29th. In front of parents, grandparents and siblings, the children dazzled with a witty and thought-provoking performance. At the end of the performance, they each read out a letter to their future selves, asking how the transition went and reflecting on primary school friendships. Daniel, Harry, Emily, Ellen, Ella, Anna, Abbie, Marsea, Olivia, Megan and Esme would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Caitlin for making Monday after school drama sessions so much fun.
