At Malvern, the primary aim of our PE curriculum is to provide our young people with the necessary skills and attitudes to lead physically active, healthy lives. In order to do this, we provide opportunities for learners to develop physical agility and confidence, participate in team games that promote fairness and respect for others and hone skills that will support them maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout life. This includes learning to swim using various strokes, taking part in outdoor pursuits and opportunities to compete.
Year 5 & 6 Girls – Merseyside Football Competition
A massive congratulations to our girls’ football team who made an amazing start to their season winning their first competition of the year. We went into the final unbeaten and after a very close game, the game went on to penalties. Through amazing goalkeeping from our keeper Erica and some fantastic penalties from our outfield players, Malvern were crowned Merseyside Champions for the third time in three years! Amazing achievement 🙂
Year 5 & 6 Cross Country
This year we have had two Cross Country races so far. we are so proud of all our pupils who have represented our school in Cross Country and cannot fault any of their efforts. In our first race we had two boys in the top 10 out of 95 children ( Elliot W 3rd & Neil W 8th) Special mention to George H from Year 5 who was racing a year older for the first time. In our second race we couldn’t of wished for any more! For the first time we had both of our pupil’s finishing 1st and 2nd in the Cross Country race ( Josh F 1st & Elliot W 2nd out of 92 children) We also had every pupil in our school improve their score from the first race. We couldn’t be more proud of our Cross Country team! Well done team!!
YEAR 6 Girls’ Premier League Stars Football Tournament (Leicester City’s King Power Stadium)
The Premier League Primary Stars Football Tournament is one of the highlights of the Premier League Communities calendar and allows hundreds of youngsters the chance to experience the thrill of being treated like a top-flight footballer. The winner of the Girls’ competition were MALVERN! We are very proud of them all.
YEAR 5&6 Girls – Merseyside Cup
Our girls once again performed magnificently. We are running out of words to describe how determined and talented this group of girls are. After suffering an early defeat in the competition it seemed to push us on and correct any mistakes we made from that first game. We cruised through each round and found ourselves in the final facing the team who previously had beaten us earlier on in the competition. We put on a much better display and won the game 2-0. Malvern were crowned champions!!
YEAR 5 & 6 HUYTON ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
We entered the Huyton Athletics Championships with another 4 schools across Huyton. In order to qualify for the Knowsley Championships later on in the year, we had to come out as the winners of this competition. The team performed magnificently, showcased their talents and worked very hard. Malvern were crowned champions! We are so very proud of our athletics team and hope to perform just as well in the Knowsley Championships in the near future! Well done and Good luck, guys.
YEAR 2 EFC TOURNAMENT
We entered the Efc tournament with another 15 schools across Knowsley. In our first game we struggled to get going and lost the game 2-0. We worked extremely hard the second game and managed to get a late winner which boosted our team spirit and confidence massively! We got stronger and stronger each game and progressed through to the Semi Finals. The team performed fantastically and cruised through to the final after an astonishing 4-0 victory. In the final we met the team we previously lost to 2-0 at the start of the day. The team showed great character and skill and we managed to win the game 1-0. Malvern were crowned champions!! We are so very proud of our Year 2 football team. We have now qualified to the finch farm finals in the summer! Well done, guys.
YEAR 3 EFC TOURNAMENT
Great effort and some good play shown by our boys in the EFC tournament. Unfortunately we had some players unavailable for selection on the day, which definitely made things a lot tougher. We came second in the group and didn’t progress through to the semi final but we can hold our heads up high.
CROSS COUNTRY RACE 3
Our Cross Country Race at Prescot School dropped on a very wet day which meant the conditions were very bad to run in. The Cross Country team performed magnificently and two of our runners got medals. Lucy H got her third medal of the year finishing 5th and Josh F won the boys race! we are very proud of our cross country team.
YEAR 2 LFC FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
We entered the tournament with another 15 other schools across Knowsley. Unfortunately we failed to progress through to the Semi Finals, but we cannot fault the teams efforts. Better luck next time guys, keep your heads held high!
YEAR 1 EFC FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Our fantastic Year 1 football team went into the EFC Tournament on the back of a competition win at LFC Academy. The team played amazingly and grew in confidence match after match and Malvern Primary School were crowned champions yet again!!! The final was very tight and extra time was needed to decide a winner. After extra time the game finished 3-1, which sealed the Year 1’s second tournament win of the season. Well done Guys, we are all so proud of you!
Y5/6 LEAGUE MATCHES 2
We went into our league match with a lot of changes to the side. Considering we had two or three key members of the squad unavailable we performed well and every player put in 100%. Unfortunately we lost our match but we have to hold our heads high and keep moving forward , trying to improve as there is still a lot of football to be played. Special mentions to Luca F (Y4) , Neil W and Katy R (Y5) who all made their debuts for the Y5/6 team.
TAG RUGBY COMPETITION
We entered the Tag Rugby Competition with another 15 schools across Knowsley. Considering our team had no chance to train together, or hardly practice before the event they performed magnificently. We narrowly missed out on a semi final only on try difference but can hold our heads up high after scoring a lot of good try’s and working well together as a team.
CROSS COUNTRY RACES 2
We went into these races very confidently after an impressive display in our first two races a few weeks back. our total scores improved and we even got ourselves a winner of a race! Zara S showcased her athleticism and ability and performed at the top of her game to win her first cross country race of the year (1st out of 92). we also got two other medals on the day, Lucy H (4th out of 92) and Josh F (4th out of 95). Incredible achievements guys! We are very proud of our cross country and cannot wait for more races in the near future.
YEAR 1 LFC FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
This was the first time our Year 1 team have played a competitive match together and they didn’t disappoint. We stormed through the group stages with no trouble, scoring a lot of amazing goals and playing some fantastic football. After progressing and cruising through the semi-finals after a 4-1 victory, we went into the Final extremely confident and the boys worked very hard on and off the ball and showcased their skill and ability and came out 5-1 winners! Malvern were crowned champions!!! We are so proud of our Year 1 football team. Special mention to Archie C who finished the tournament top goal scorer and player of the tournament! Congratulations boys!
YEAR 5 & 6 EFC TOURNAMENT
18 schools across Knowsley entered the EFC Tournament this week. Our team performed magnificently and in five matches we only conceded one goal. Unfortunately, that one goal came in the final were we narrowly lost 1-0. The team can hold their heads up high and must be proud of how they represented the school and how they all performed on the day. They were rewarded with a place in the EFC Finch Farm Finals in the summer for finishing second place. Well done guys!
YEAR 5/6 FOOTBALL LEAGUE MATCHES
We got off to a phenomenal start in the league this year winning our first two games. The first game we struggled to take our chances but after a brilliant move, the ball dropped to Louis B in the penalty area and he stroked the ball into the net which secured us our first three points of the season. The second match we really come into our own and played some beautiful football and all worked extremely hard! Thanks to a hat trick from our team captain Zara S and a neat finish from Tom C we ran out 4-0 winners. Well done team!!
YEAR 5 & 6 CROSS COUNTRY RACES 1
A fantastic start to our Cross Country season this year! We are very proud with all of our pupils that raced. They pushed themselves to the limit and represented our school amazingly. Well done guys!! Special mentions to Lucy H (5th out of 68) & Josh F (3rd out of 73) which landed them both a medal. Fantastic achievement!
Year 5 & 6 Girls Football Merseyside Finals – Our Girls football team were entered into the Merseyside finals on merit! This group of girls still have never been beaten and we cruised past all opposing teams quite comfortably. Malvern were crowned MERSEYSIDE champions! This is fantastic news and we are all so very proud. The teams achievements have now been recognised by the Liverpool Echo Paper and an article will be in the paper shortly. The girls will now represent the North of England in the National Finals in the summer. Well done girls!!
Year 5 & 6 Girls Knowsley Football Tournament – Another trophy for our talented, amazing girls football team. In over 5 games the team scored a total of 21 goals without conceding. We are very proud of our team. Well done girls!!!
Huyton Athletics – In November 2016 our Year 5 and 6 Athletics team competed in the Huyton Athletics Championships. After so much hard work and dedication going to Athletics after school clubs week in week out, the team were rewarded with a first place finish!! Huyton Champions. we are all so proud of our athletics team and wish them the best of luck in next month’s Knowsley Finals!!
Year 5 LFC Football Tournament – Our Year 5 team entered the tournament as last year’s champions and got themselves off too a flying start winning all 4 of their group games putting them through to the semi final. The side put on a master class and won quite comfortably winning the game 3-0 to secure a place in the final two years on the run. The final was an extremely tight game and the team showed great character after conceding a late goal to equal the game at 1-1 by going straight down the other end and scoring a last second winner!!! Malvern won the tournament and we were crowned champions. This is absolutely brilliant news and we are all very proud of our year 5 team. They will now progress through to the regional finals in June. Special mention for Josh F who is a Year 4 boy who played his first games for Year 5 and scored two goals in the final!! 🙂
Cross Country – Our Cross Country team have raced in 3 big races in September and October 2016 and have performed magnificently well. Our girls have had two bronze medal finishes and one silver as a team! Special mentions to Lillie G and Zara S. Lillie got one medal for finishing in the top 5 and Zara got two gold medals finishing first place in both races she competed in. We are extremely proud of their success!!! Well done team 🙂
Liverpool FC Champions Finals – our Year 4 Boys and Y 3/4 Girls qualified to take part in this years LFC champions finals after already winning a tournament this year :). All the champions and runners up across Merseyside entered and through the excellent skills demonstrated from our players and a wonderful attitude both teams were victorious!! This is brilliant news 🙂 We are very proud of all of our children!
Swimming Gala Finals – Our Year 4 finalists should all be very proud of their performances at the gala. Zara Shaw came first place in the year 3/4 front crawl final crowning her the best in Knowsley at this event for her age group. Well done 🙂
Year 4 Everton Football Club Finals – held at Everton training ground ( Finch Farm ). Our Year 4 children performed very well. After winning 3 games we went into a final game to decide who topped the group and move on to the final and we narrowly lost one goal to nil. Such a cruel way to lose any game!! All players should hold their heads up high 🙂 !

Reception Liverpool Football Club Football Tournament – held at Liverpool Way ( Academy ). Our Reception children enjoyed their day a lot and showcased their brilliant skills 🙂 They also behaved exceptionally!!! Well done Children.
Year 5/6 Liverpool Cup 7’s Competition
We attended a Football Tournament representing Huyton, which included the other best school football teams around Merseyside. Through the exceptional skills from our footballers , Malvern won the tournament and were crowned champions . Our football team have now qualified to play in a Semi Final on Anfield or Liverpool Academy in the near future. We are so proud of the football team. This is Amazing news 😀
Year 5 Everton FC Fun Festival Tournament
We attended a Football Tournament, which included 21 other schools within Knowsley. After excellent management and coaching by Mr Dickinson and Mr Gardiner and through the exceptional skills of our players, Malvern won the tournament and were crowned champions of the Year 5 Everton FC Fun Festival. Our football team have now qualified to play in a Tournament on Everton FC’s training ground ( Finch Farm ) in the near future. We are so proud of the football team. This is brilliant news!!
Year 3 & 4 Girls Liverpool FC Football Tournament
Our Year 3 and 4 Girls attended a football tournament playing against other schools across Knowsley and Liverpool. through hard work and dedication our Football team managed to win all their games and were crowned champions. They will now play in more finals in June at Liverpool Academy. This is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of our year 3 & 4 football team!!
Year 5 & 6 Liverpool Football Club Girls Football Tournament – held at Liverpool Way ( Academy ). The girls performed fantastically showcasing great skill! Well done girls :).
Year 5 & 6 Boys & Girls Cross Country – this was a tough course at St Margaret Marys but we were able to hold our own and we finished over all third.
Year 6 Boys & Girls Cross Country – we were able to enter a Year 4 runner (Zara Shaw) onto this race who performed exceptionally well alongside the Year 6 girls. Harry & William finished second and third respectively.
Year 5 & 6 Football – held at King George V playing fields was another great success where we won 2 games and were narrowly defeated on 2 further games.
Year 5 & 6 Football – held at Lord Derby Academy and once again our team won their league games, super victory.
Year 2 Football – this was played at Prescot Soccer Centre where all of the children showed great team work and respect for all players on the pitch.
Year 5 & 6 Football – this was played at Sutton High (St Helens) and it was the National Cup Tournament, where we were narrowly beaten 3-2 in the final; a Year 4 boy (Freddie Duncan) was able to make his debut and did not look out of place amongst the older children, well done!
Year 3 Football – this was played at Prescot Soccer Centre where all of the children displayed super team skills and motivation, it was with great disappointment that we were beaten in the semi final.
Year 5 & 6 Indoor Athletics – this was at Lord Derby Academy and Zara Shaw was able to compete, where she won the majority of her events. Due to our success, where we were the overall winners, we are now competing in the Knowsley Indoor Athletics competition (due to take place in 2016).
Year 5 & 6 Football – this was played at Malvern and this was the Liverpool Echo Shield, where we gained a super victory (7-1) and progressed to the next round where we will play Plantation Primary School in 2016.
Year 1 Fun Multi Skills Football – this was held at Liverpool Football Academy and the children showed fantastic skills and respect to all players and coaches. Whilst at the academy Joshua Melia was scouted by the Liverpool coaches, well done Joshua.
Year 5 at KNOWSLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The children in Year 5 attend the College every Thursday as part of their PE lessons. This enables the children to have access to a range of different sports from a range of sports coaches. Alongside this the students at the college are able to extend their leadership and coaching skills too.

We attended a Football Tournament, where all of the Year 1 children played exceptionally well.
KNOWSLEY FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
We attended a Football Tournament, which included the top ten football teams within Knowsley. After excellent management and coaching by Mr Gardiner and Mr Phillips and through the exceptional skills of our players, Malvern won the tournament to take the title of ‘Champions of Knowsley’. Our football team have now qualified to play in the Nationals 2016, where we will play teams from across England. We are so proud of the football team. This is fantastic news!!
KNOWSLEY SCHOOLS 4 HEALTH
We are very pleased to announce that Malvern has achieved a Bronze Award for all of our continued efforts to maintain healthy eating and promote exercise and well being within all of our children. We are working hard towards our Silver Award, which we hope to achieve in the Autumn term 2015. Alongside the Knowsley Schools 4 Health team we will be promoting physical activity for both children and parents. Reception and Year 1 children will have received their free toothbrushes to help them maintain their healthy teeth and gums.
Another fantastic week of Sports facilitated by Mr Dickinson and his additional sports coaches and through the support of all staff and teaching assistants; and ultimately the participation of all the children. During the week the children were able to partake in a range of sports and the weather stayed dry for all events too.
Due to our excellent links with Greenbank Academy all the children were able to have coaching from Greenbank staff and play Boccia, wheelchair baskeball and volleyball. Incorporated within Sports Week a group of our Year 6 children were invited to Greenbank Academy’s Choices Festival of Disability Sport at Wavertree Sports Park. This was a full day of competitions and activities where our children were able to work and participate alongside children with disabilities. It was a fantastic day and we even came away with some Gold Medals.
The week ended with our annual Sports Day, which included 4 separate sports day events for all Key Stages, with all parents welcome and even some parental participation. The day was an enormous success with full participation from all children and staff.
Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 have been taking part in Mini Paralympics Sessions at Greenbank Sports Academy; alongside this Greenbank have been providing a weekly after school club at Malvern for children across both Key Stages.
As part of our cluster of schools our Sports Specialist, Mr Dickinson, arranged for children in Year 1 within our school and our clsuter schools to come to Malvern to partake in an Orienteering Activity. The children were supported by a Sports Leader who helped them to use a map and coordinates in order to find different locations around the school field. As the children searched for the locations they were all encouraged and enthused by their Sports Leader to run and be active, alongside being able to map read. When they found their location they had some maths problems to solve and they also had a Disney character to identify (this was just for fun). The children had a fantastic afternoon and the sun shone for the children too.
MULTI SPORTS TOURNAMENT
Mr Dickinson arranged a tournament for our cluster schools and some other schools within the Knowsley borough. Children were invited from Year 3, 4 & 5 to take part in a range of sports such as, football, hockey and handball. The children were supported by sports leaders who refereed the games. All children were given participation certificates and medals and it was a huge success with all children having a great sporting afternoon.

The event was a great success with all children having a wonderful and rather energetic afternoon; the children were rewarded with a participation certificate and, of course, an Easter Egg upon completion of the hunt.
UHI-HOC CLUSTER TOURNAMNET
As part of our cluster of schools our Sports Specialist, Mr Dickinson, arranged for children in Year 3 & Year 4 from within our school and our clsuter schools to come to Malvern to partake in the tournament. The tournament was supported by Sports Leaders and class teachers from all of the cluster schools and Mrs Worthington from Malvern and the whole event was lead by Mr Dickinson.
The event was a great success with all children having an energetic afternoon; the children were rewarded with a participation certificate and a hockey inscribed medal for their participation.
