Hamlet
‘The play’s the thing wherein I’ll catch the conscience of the king.’
On Wednesday 10th July, members of our Drama & Theatre Club journeyed to Knowsley Hall – the ancestral home of the Earls of Derby. A section of the hall’s gardens had been transformed into Elsinor Castle ready for The Lord Chamberlain’s Men to perform one of Shakespeare’s most thrilling tragedies – Hamlet. Children were armed with picnics, blankets and camping chairs – and even the rain didn’t dampen enthusiasm or enjoyment. A feast of al fresco Shakespearean language, excitement and swordsmanship was enjoyed by all.
As ever, Drama & Theatre Club children were excellent ambassadors for Malvern. Several members of the audience spoke to Malvern teachers to marvel at the children’s excellent behaviour and concentration. One of the children was celebrating his birthday on Wednesday – and after the show, the cast posed for photos and presented the birthday boy with a signed copy of the programme.
We were delighted to be joined by Liz Parr and Katharine O’Neill from Liverpool Hope University – and our former Malvern colleague Jan Blundell. Before the show started, we also bumped into long-serving (and long-retired) Malvern teacher Brenda Donaldson.
