Miep Gies’s kindness put her life in danger.  For over two years, she looked after Anne Frank, her mum, dad and sister – and four other people – when they were hiding in the ‘secret annex’.  When all eight were discovered and arrested, Miep kept Anne’s diary safe.  Anne’s father (Otto) was the only person to survive.  Miep gave Anne’s diary to him when he eventually returned to Amsterdam.
