Malsal: Celebrating Football at Malvern

To celebrate Schools’ Football Week, we host an annual exhilarating week of football festivities, culminating in the much-anticipated Malsal Champions. Each year our Malsal tournament – a unique and inclusive twist on the traditional game of football – brings a wave of excitement and camaraderie throughout our school community.
What is Malsal?
Malsal is a thrilling intra-school football competition that captures the essence of football while incorporating some exciting variations. In this spirited game, students put their skills and strategy to the test, with a few intriguing twists:
First Touch Goals: In Malsal, players can only score a goal with their first touch. This adds an element of precision and excitement to the game, making every goal an unforgettable moment.
No Consecutive Scoring: To promote teamwork and fair play, the same player cannot score consecutive goals. This encourages students to share the glory and collaborate with their teammates.
Head Height Rule: Keeping the ball below head height challenges our students to adapt their playing style and develop their ball control skills.
During Schools’ Football Week, the excitement of Malsal fills the air at Malvern. Across Key Stage Two, all pupils eagerly participate in the Malsal Championship. The week is marked by friendly competition, cheering crowds and unforgettable moments on the pitch.
Each class hosts its own Malsal competition to crown the champions of their respective classes. The intensity of these class-level competitions is palpable as students showcase their talents and teamwork. The winning teams from each class earn the privilege of representing their class against opposing teams throughout the school with the victorious classes advancing to the final, setting the stage for an epic showdown.

The final match is always a true spectacle with two classes battling it out for Malsal supremacy. As the teams take to the pitch, excitement reaches fever pitch and the roar of their enthusiastic supporters can be heard throughout the local streets.
Our Intra-School football competition is a memorable week of football in the school calendar.
